Alexandroupolis Photo Week

One City.
Many Perspectives.
Countless Stories.

Alexandroupolis is getting its very own Photography Week.

From October 31 to November 8, 2026, photography becomes an invitation to connect, create, exchange ideas, and discover new ways of seeing the world around us.

Alexandroupolis Photo Week is a new cultural initiative by the Creative Photography Centre of Thrace, bringing together photography, creativity, and people in an open space for artistic expression, dialogue, and exchange.

Photographers, artists, cultural practitioners, and photography enthusiasts come together for a celebration that brings photography closer to the city and its people.

The Idea Behind the APW

We believe in the power of photography to connect people, places, and stories.

Alexandroupolis Photo Week began with a simple idea: photography deserves a lasting place in the cultural life of our city — a space where images, ideas, and different perspectives can meet.

What started as an idea gradually became a shared ambition and, ultimately, a collective effort.

For us, photography is more than an art form. It is a way of observing, interpreting, and understanding the world. A means of personal expression, social reflection, and communication that brings together people from different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

Our vision is to establish an inclusive festival where established artists meet emerging photographers, experience meets experimentation, and every image becomes the starting point for a new conversation.

Above all, we want photography to reach beyond traditional exhibition spaces and become an integral part of everyday life and the cultural identity of Alexandroupolis.

A Collective Effort

Alexandroupolis Photo Week is brought to life by people who share a passion for photography.

Behind this first edition is a community united by a love of photography and a shared desire to contribute something meaningful to their city.

The festival is the result of collective commitment, countless hours of voluntary work, personal dedication, and creative collaboration. An initiative driven not by abundant resources, but by passion, generosity, and the belief that meaningful things can be achieved when people come together.

Our inaugural edition holds particular significance, as it places the members of the Creative Photography Centre of Thrace at the heart of the festival.

Through twelve solo photography exhibitions, they present their individual perspectives, personal explorations, and the stories they choose to tell through their images.

It is both a tribute to the people who have sustained the region's photographic community over the years and an invitation to explore new possibilities for artistic expression and collaboration.

A Collective Effort

The Inaugural Edition — APW 2026

Nine days dedicated to photography, creativity, and meaningful encounters.

Alexandroupolis Photo Week 2026 presents a diverse programme of exhibitions, events, and activities, welcoming both those actively involved in photography and anyone curious to discover it.

The programme includes:

  • Photography Exhibitions: Solo and group exhibitions presenting a wide range of photographic practices, themes, and artistic approaches.

  • Talks & Discussions: Conversations with photographers, artists, and cultural professionals exploring contemporary photography and its role in society.

  • Photography Workshops: Opportunities for hands-on learning, experimentation, and creative exchange.

  • Portfolio Reviews: Meetings where photographers can present their work, receive constructive feedback, and engage in meaningful dialogue with experienced professionals.

  • Educational Activities: Creative experiences for children, teenagers, and school groups, encouraging visual awareness, imagination, and artistic expression.

  • Photography Competition — “Photographing My City”: An open invitation for residents to rediscover Alexandroupolis and capture the city through their own eyes.

At the heart of the festival lies the experience of photography itself: observing, participating, discovering, and sharing images, ideas, and perspectives.

The People Behind the Images

Images tell stories. People bring them to life.

Alexandroupolis Photo Week aspires to become a meeting point for photographers, curators, artists, thinkers, and everyone who contributes to the art and culture of photography.

The inaugural edition welcomes distinguished guests, including Iraklis Papaioannou, Dora Lavazou, Konstantinos Pittas, and Eirini Kontogeorgiou, who bring their knowledge, experience, and individual perspectives to a programme of talks, presentations, and creative encounters.

Their participation offers audiences in Alexandroupolis a valuable opportunity to engage with different photographic approaches and take part in an open conversation about images, visual culture, and the contemporary world.

Beyond Borders, Through Images

The geographical position of Alexandroupolis is an essential part of the festival's identity.

Situated at the crossroads of different cultures, experiences, and histories, the city provides a natural setting for photography to become a shared language of communication and understanding.

Through collaborations with photographers, photography groups, and cultural organisations from Greece and abroad, we seek to encourage artistic exchange, strengthen international connections, and create opportunities for new creative partnerships.

Our ambition is for Alexandroupolis Photo Week to gradually grow into a meeting point for contemporary photography in Thrace and the wider region of Southeastern Europe.

A place where borders become opportunities for connection and images open new paths for dialogue.

The Center for Creative Photography of Thrace

Nearly two decades of creativity, collaboration, and passion for photography.

The Center for Creative Photography of Thrace is a cultural organisation based in Alexandroupolis, dedicated to promoting and sharing the art of photography for almost twenty years.

Through exhibitions, educational programmes, photographic excursions, presentations, and collaborations with cultural organisations, the Centre has nurtured an active and welcoming community of people united by their interest in photography.

At the heart of its philosophy lies the belief that photography should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, background, experience, or technical knowledge.

Over the years, the Center has provided opportunities for learning, artistic exploration, creative dialogue, and collective expression, contributing to the cultural life of Alexandroupolis and the wider region of Thrace.

Alexandroupolis Photo Week represents a natural continuation of this journey.

Building on years of shared experience, it marks a new chapter — one that opens the door to broader collaborations, fresh perspectives, and new opportunities for the photographic community.

Creating Something Worth Continuing

Alexandroupolis Photo Week aims to be more than a series of exhibitions and events.

We want it to become an opportunity to connect, collaborate, find inspiration, and discover what is possible when people create together.

Our hope is that this inaugural edition will mark the beginning of a lasting journey — one that will continue to grow, evolve, and contribute meaningfully to the cultural life of Alexandroupolis.

We believe that great things often begin with a shared vision and a small group of people willing to bring it to life.

And sometimes, it all begins with a photograph.
